Studio JZ was established by John Zhang in 2017 as a London-based design and research led boutique practice. Working closely with clients, Studio JZ seeks to create bespoke projects of quality, delight and imagination. 

 

John is an ARB registered Architect with over 15 years of experience in the design profession, across a range of sectors and scales, through all RIBA Stages. John has a particular interest and expertise in housing and the arts. Prior to establishing Studio JZ, John was an Associate at DSDHA, responsible for a number of award winning buildings, including Olympic Village Housing for London 2012, a bespoke workshop for jewellery designer Alex Monroe, and a flagship fashion store on Oxford Street.

John studied architecture at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Art, winning the Conran Foundation Design Award and the Will Alsop Award for Urbanism for his Master’s design thesis. John also holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art,

Studio JZ is actively engaged in practice-based research. As a published academic, John is interested in and has written about, housing, practice-based research, and contemporary architecture practice in China. John is a Lecturer at the University of Westminster, where he is the studio master of a Joint International Design Studio jointly run with the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China, and the co-convenor of the Practice & Making Research Group.
